International Groove Conspiracy (IGC) ~ Beyond Horizon - $12.99
International Groove Conspiracy is a two-time winner the Future of Jazz Competition, a prestigious event that highlights international musical talent. In 2003, the trio was invited to play in an exclusive concert for the world-renowned Latin jazz pianist, Chucho Valdez. The summer of 2004 found the group broadening its following by playing at the Atlantis Music Conference and the 27th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival. The concert at the festival was well received by the thousands of jazz lovers that attended the event and also caught the attention of fellow performers Randy Weston, Regina Carter, Roy Hargrove and Ahmad Jamal. The IGC returned to the 28th Atlanta Jazz Festival in the summer of 2005 and also delivered an enthusiastic performance at the Montreaux Music Festival of Atlanta later that year. The group is currently scheduled to appear at the 29th Annual Jazz Festival, Memorial Day weekend 2006.
Aside from playing all over Atlanta, International Groove Conspiracy has released their first album, "Beyond Horizon", featuring original compositions by José Manuel García and an arrangement of Juan Tizol and Duke Ellington’s “Caravan", and continues to soar to new heights with ellora management and the legendary Ahmad Jamal.

AHMAD JAMAL WITH THE ASSAI QUARTET (live) is Ahmad Jamal's first outing with a string quartet.
The five compositions are presented in the order they were written, and one can hear a progression.
Ahmad begins with the string quartet phrasing as a single instrument set against the jazz trio (piano-bass-drums).
By the fourth piece, "Patouche" Ahmad defers to the quartet by opening with solo violin, and later has the strings dominate the 7/4 rhythm while the drums and piano splash in and out with color.
The conclusion, "A Short Piece" is performed by the string quartet alone, and in the Ellington tradition, there is an individualized solo for each player.
POTS EN VERRE is a suite of solo piano improvisations recorded on the Steinway grand in Ahmad's living room. As spontaneous compositions, this suite is a perfect complement to the suite with the string quartet.
Suzanne Lefevre, the Assai violist, told Ahmad she always fantasized about singing jazz in a nightclub. Ahmad helped her capture that feel on her viola.

This DVD was beautifully filmed at the ruins of Baalbeck, Lebanon during the 2003 Baalbeck festival. 12 brilliant live performances, including Jamal's 1958 hit single "Poinciana" and his 2003 radio hit "In Search Of" are included. A journey through Baalbeck and interviews with the artists are also featured.
career stretching back to the early 1950s, Ahmad Jamal proved to be a huge influence on artists such as Miles Davis and Gil Evans. Having won numerous awards, and provided soundtrack material for films such as THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, and MASH, Jamal is rightly lauded throughout the business. This releases sees him performing at the Baalbeck festival in 2003, in which he attempts to cover all areas of his lengthy, and diverse, career. His mastery of the piano is a wonder to behold, and an object lesson for all aspiring players to follow. Over the space of 12 songs, Jamal manages to work an incredible array of ideas into his music, providing an inspirational set which belies his age and lengthy tenure in the business.
